How to use this MCA and MOCP reference
- Locate the heater or condenser nameplate and identify the exact circuit.
- Use MCA for conductor ampacity and MOCP as the breaker/fuse ceiling.
- Apply terminal temperature, derating, conduit fill, voltage drop and local inspection rules.
Worked example: A replacement condenser can have a different MOCP from the old unit even when the nominal tonnage is unchanged.
Record the result with the project address, equipment model, code edition and assumptions. That audit trail is more useful than copying a single number without its conditions.

Does MCA tell me the breaker size?
No. MCA guides conductor ampacity; MOCP sets the maximum protective-device size. The nameplate and code determine the final selection.
Are heat strips on the same circuit as the outdoor unit?
Usually not. Confirm the indoor heater kit nameplate and the manufacturer's wiring diagram before treating circuits as related.
